Air France - KLM Could place big aircraft order news on Flight Crew Finder Ltd

Air France-KLM could place a "very big order" for Airbus or Boeing aircraft to cover its needs for many years, chief executive Pierre Henri Gourgeon said on Monday.

"We could have a very big order of the size you mentioned," Gourgeon said when asked by reporters in Rome about plans to buy up to 100 medium-sized planes, a segment in which the Airbus A350 competes with the Boeing 787.

It has been reported by the Figaro newspaper that Air France may use one of their A380 aircraft to shuttle between Paris and London.

The flight would operate from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport to London's Heathrow.  The french carrier currently has three of the super jumbo's in its fleet.  The double deck aircraft is operated on routes from their main hub to New York and Johannesburg.

The airline has ordered 12 of the 530 seat aircraft in 3 class configurations and is likely to receive its fourth example in late August.

The Transport Workers Union, responsible for representing nearly 18,000 of American Airline's cabin crew, has officially asked to be released from negotiations with the carrier.  This indicates a move towards potential strike action.

Under US law Unions cannot embark on strike action unless the Mediation Board has declared an impasse in negotiations.  If the impasse is granted there will be a mandatory 30-day 'cooling-off' period before any walkouts could begin.

It was revealed yesterday, by the French Civil Aviation Authority, that an Air France Airbus A319 was forced to take evasive action to avoid hitting a Cessna.  The aircraft came close shortly after take-off from Nice airport when the Cessna, registered in Switzerland, failed to follow the standard departure procedures.

The incident occured on Wednesday and the Air France pilots had to follow TCAS instructions to avoid the Cessna which climbed through their flight path.
