Sullenberger lands his last flight

United States

Captain Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger retired from his job as a US Airways captain on Wednesday with a final flight from Fort Lauderdale to Charlotte.  The First Officer on board was Jeff Skiles, the same FO who famously helped Sullenberger land a stricken A320 on the Hudson river in January 2009.

Upon his retirement the Captain from Texas said that flying was "a profession that he dearly loved" and he had enjoyed working "side by side with thousands of wonderful colleagues".  After landing his final flight the aicraft was met by fire engines forming an archway, but the man himself "didn't want any big fanfare".

Sullenberger has recently written a book, titled 'Highest Duty', about the Hudson ditching and plans to spend his free time advocating aviation safety.  The 59 year old Captain could have gone on to fly till 65 under new age legislation, however he wants to spend time pursueing oppurtunities that come out of the interest surrounding him to try to tighten up aviation safety.
