NBAA Regional Forum Strikes a Chord in New Orleans
The first NBAA business aviation regional forum in 2012 was held in New Orleans on Thursday, marking “a triumphant return to the Crescent City” six years after Hurricane Katrina forced the association to move its annual convention from the flood-damaged region.
“NBAA is pleased with the results of the New Orleans forum,” said NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen. “Compared with other forums in similar-sized markets, the numbers for this one were quite strong, with more than 500 people in attendance, 63 exhibitors and 14 airplanes on the static display.”
Landmark Aviation at New Orleans Lakefront Airport was the host FBO for the event. Hurricane Katrina nearly destroyed the airport due to storm surges that flooded the property with up to 15 feet of water. In fact, Landmark now occupies the space of the former Million Air facility, which suffered extensive flooding damage and was demolished. After enduring several rough years since the hurricane, traffic at Lakefront is now rebounding, with Landmark’s business already returning to about 85 percent of what it was before Katrina. Landmark Aviation general manager Addie Fanguy expects business to reach pre-Katrina levels later this year.
