Biofuel technically viable for aviation but financing is the problem

Second-generation jet biofuel derived from nonfood sources such as jatropha, camelina and algae is technologically feasible and has been proven in flight, but financing production of large enough quantities to power airline operations on any significant scale remains a formidable obstacle, according to experts who spoke last week at ATW's Eco-Aviation Conference in Washington.

Emirates recruiting Cabin Crew at Newcastle Airport

People who think they have got what it takes to be an air host or hostess are being invited to an event at a NewcastleAirport hotel this weekend.

Emirates Airlines is hosting the event at the Marriot Hotel from 09:00BST on Saturday June 26th to recruit new members for its cabin crew.

Those who are interested should take a CV and photograph to the event and dress in business smart clothes. The successful applicants will be based with the airline in Dubai.

Phase two of the European Union-USA Open skies agreement will be signed tomorrow during a transport council meeting in Luxembourg. The Spanish ministry of public works says the deal will be signed at tomorrow's meeting by US secretary of transportation Ray LaHood and EU transport commissioner Siim Kallas.

Sightseeing DC-3 badly damaged in emergency

German investigators are to examine the reasons for an emergency landing involving a sightseeing Douglas DC-3 at Berlin, which substantially damaged the aircraft.Seven occupants suffered minor injuries in the incident which closed Berlin Schonefeld Airport for 15 minutes.

American 777 loses door at D/FW

Deplaning didn't go smoothly Tuesday morning for an American 777.

Apparently, an American Airlines flight arriving at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport lost its door in a Terminal D jetbridge.

The aircraft pulled up to the terminal around 6:20 a.m. and docked with the jetbridge. Flight attendants opened the door to start letting passengers off the plane.

Private jet use growing in London

The organisation has seen a growth in bookings that led to last weeks announcement of its increased profits this year. The increased business has come from corporate and private clients seeing the benefits and ease of use of private jet charter.

Flight attendant helps land plane at O'Hare

The flight to Chicago was running late. Then the co-pilot got sick, forced out of the Boeing 767 cockpit by vicious stomach flulike symptoms.

The captain of American Airlines Flight 1612 checked to see if any off-duty pilots were traveling on the flight from San Francisco to O'Hare International Airport on Monday.

No luck. But a flight attendant who is also a commercial pilot earned her wings all over again, officials said Tuesday.

PrivateConnect launched by British Airways and CitationAir

The UK legacy carrier British Airways have formed an agreement with the private jet charter company CitationAir. The two have launched a PrivateConnect service that will offer British Airways customers access to the full fleet of Cessna Citation aircraft.

The service will be available on both sides of the Atlantic and is provided at a pay-per-hour rate with no contract or long-term commitment.

Aer Lingus results hit by volcano

The Irish carrier, Aer Lingus, last week announced its traffic figures for May, a month severely affected by the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland.

The volcano erupted in April and continued to affect European air transport into May with airspace closures and restrictions due to volcanic ash in the atmosphere.

Aer Lingus said that there were 11 days last month on which they were unable to operate a full schedule. This led to an overall drop in passenger numbers of nearly 10%.

Flight Options takes first Phenom 300 on tour

Flight Options, the business jet charted and fractional ownership organisation have taken delivery of their first Phenom 300. To celebrate this and showcase their newest aircraft they have announced a nationwide tour of the USA.

The tour began last week in Washington DC and will visit 40 cities including New York, Las Vegas and Chicago. The tour will last approximately for weeks.

Flight Options is the first and only private jet company to offer fractional ownership of the Phenom 300.

Today the 2010 FIFA World Cup has kicked off in South Africa. This part of the world has become a popular holiday destination for Europeans due to the relatively minor time differences involved. Airlines to start to fit airbags.

Cathay Pacific Airways and Air France have begun introducing seatbelt-mounted airbags in their economy-class cabins as authorities tighten regulations aimed at reducing the risk of fatalities in plane crashes.

All aircraft built in the US since October must conform to standards designed to keep passengers conscious through an impact involving deceleration at 16 times the force of gravity so that they can escape any subsequent fire. The same rules will be introduced in Europe by the end of next year.
