Although pre-owned business aircraft sales are nowhere near the peaks of 18 months ago, the inventory of used aircraft is beginning to recede, according to statistics released by industry data provider Amstat. The worldwide supply of available used business jets has decreased from a high of nearly 18 percent last summer to 16.2 percent in January, while resale activity nearly doubled from 1.5 percent of the global fleet in the first quarter of 2009 to 2.7 percent in the fourth quarter of last year.

British Airways is heading more than £1 billion of losses during the steepest aviation recession to date.

The UK flag carrier will report deepening losses next week during the third quarter of its financial year — which includes Christmas. It is shaping up as the worst financial year in BA’s history, with losses as much as 50 per cent greater than last year.

A United Airlines 777 jet headed from Maui to San Francisco turned back to Honolulu about two hours into Sunday's flight after bad weather forced the pilot to fly at a lower-than-usual altitude that burned through fuel at a faster rate, according to the airline.

United Flight 34 left Maui at 2:03 p.m. Sunday headed for San Francisco, and was expected to arrive just before 9 p.m.
