Air New Zealand increases capacity as demand rises

New Zealand

Air New Zealand have announced an increase in consumer demand that is leading them to increase capacity on routes.

The increased demand is a hopeful indicator that the global economic recovery is underway as some of the capacity increases is a return of decrease forced by last year’s slump. The airline will increase number of seats on international routes by 4.9% and on domestic routes by 3.8%.

The bulk of the increase is expected to come on North American routes, including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver. Trans-Tasman routes, between Australia and New Zealand, will also be boosted by 10.2% on 2009 levels. This still leaves the airlines capacity on these busy routes 6.6% less than it was during the pre recession period, in 2008.
