Aer Lingus dissappointing long-haul performance
Aer Lingus last week announced its passenger figures for the month of February. There was a fall of 3.5% in total passengers carried by the airline, when compared to the same month last year, that was driven by a significant drop in long-haul traffic.
A total of 46,000 people travelled to long-haul destination with the Irish carrier last month, down from 68,000 in 2009. This fall of 32.4% has had a marked impact on the airlines monthly figures and the results for 2010 so far, with a drop of 1.5%.
The airline, whose majority share holder is Ryanair, will announce their full financial figures for 2009 today amid a background of industrial relations issues. The airline proposed a cost saving plan to all staff that was accepted by pilots and ground handlers, but rejected last week by cabin crew.
